From heavyweight hoodies to custom Nikes and film festival debuts to Ojerime’s new album, here’s all the news you need to digest from the past 7 days. Whilst the fashion world continues to evolve into FW22, there are plenty of fresh cultural releases to take in.
OJERIME RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM
South London's R&B princess Ojerime and producer Mura Masa team up for her latest single "Keep It Lo". All year, Ojerime has continued to drop a number of smooth soulful offerings, a clear sign for her being in album mode. The single, crafted from a throwback Project Pat sample, is an ode to the US' southern chopped and screwed sound. Still of course in her signature lo-fi style, we have stumbled across an excellent pairing in Ojerime and Mura Masa.
AMAARAE COLLABORATES WITH NIKE ON AIR FORCE 1
Ghanaian singer, Amaarae, has collaborated with Nike, to release a limited edition collection of the Air Force 1 trainers. The collection, titled ‘Colour of the Month’ sees the iconic silhouette returning from the 80s. The trainer has long since been a staple in the music industry, the iconic Swoosh embraced by many artists very early on. What better way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Air Force 1 than joining forces with the multi-talented generational star?
FIRST PHOTOS RELEASED FROM THE GUCCI X PALACE COLLAB
Anyone who fancies themselves as a streetwear Sherlock Holmes will know that this collaboration has been on the cards for a while. As of today, fans can view the full range and advertisement teaser, which is amazingly soundtracked by the Prodigy's "Out Of Space". It's classic Palace, really, reveling in British hedonism and the high-end world of luxury fashion.
KWES E DROPS NEW SINGLE “FIRST”
Featuring an all-star lineup of collaborators, Kwes E's new single is an afro-jazz-centric banger. BXKS lends her potent wordplay to E's vivid storytelling, whilst Mulade and Kamil Ademola combine on a host of undulating rhythms and improvisation.
THE NORTHAZE RETURN OVER E-SAI'S PRODUCTION
Leeds rap duo the Northaze have had a relatively quiet 2022, dropping nothing more than a collaborative mixtape. However, E-Sai's dystopian production has pulled them out of hibernation for a sinister, neo-futuristic new track. Industrial syncopations combine with the wordsmiths' revolving flows; play this one LOUD.
OLI JACKSON RELEASES BOOK THAT DIGESTS “BENIDORM AWAY” DAYS
Forget Stoke on a cold Tuesday night, Benidorm away days can be one of the heaviest fixtures on anyone's calendar. Brits on the piss, dressed in skimpy Santa suits and drinking booze from their Lonsdale slip-ons are just a few of the antics photographer Oli Jackson captures on his trip to the Spanish Seaside Resort. "Benidorm Away’s" release comes with an exhibition at Village Books in Manchester, where you can also purchase the first issue of REPEAT... If there's any left.
“MEET ME IN THE BATHROOM” DEBUTS AT LONDON FILM FESTIVAL
Documenting the meteoric rise of New York's noughties indie scene, "Meet me in the Bathroom" is based on Liz Goodman's book from 2017. From the Strokes to LCD Soundystem and Interpol to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "indie sleaze" was booming in the early 2000s, making a name for itself in NYC's dodgy dive bars. The documentary will be airing at the London film festival this weekend.

JEHUCAL DROPS “CLOCKWORK” HEAVYWEIGHT HOODIE
Any long-term Repeat readers will know that we've been fans of JEHUCAL for a while. Officially the heaviest hoodie in the game, weighing at 580GSM, the new "clockwork" piece is perfect for winter's cold days and its all-over print design makes it a winner for anyone who likes to pattern themselves and stand out from the crowd.
MERCURY PRIZE RESCHEDULED
October 18th has been announced as the new date for the Mercury Prize awards ceremony. The event was postponed last month when news of the Queen’s death was announced just moments before kick-off. 11 of the 12 nominations will perform live, including Little Simz and Kojey Radical, and we will, at last, find out who has won the title of best album this year.
STORMZY ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM
Stormzy returned to social media this week to announce the release date of his new album. This is What I Mean, the rapper’s third full-length album, will be unleashed on November 25th. A tracklist of 12 titles has also been published, but fans are still left guessing which collaborators will feature in the new project.
