TRACKS OF THE MONTH - JANUARY

ALL THE MUSIC THAT TICKLED OUR FANCY OVER JANUARY. FROM KAM-BU TO JAYDONCLOVER AND LSDXOXO TO J P ROSE, HERE ARE OUR FAVOURITE TRACKS FROM THE MONTH JUST GONE.

CLBRKS & DWEEB - FORWHATITSWORTH

Taken from the forthcoming collaborative album between CLBRKS and DWEEB, FORWHATITSWORTH is a soul ladened single drizzled with CL’s trademark punchline rhymes and charismatic delivery. DWEEB’s beat brings out a more introspective side to CLBRKS too, which we are hoping signifies the vibe for The Library Of Babel - released via Group Bracil 26/02/21 .

LANCEY FOUX - STEELO FLOW

Since becoming the face of Givenchy, it seems Lancey Foux’s artistry has become even more dexterous. On STEELO FLOW, the Londoner bodies Jay Trench’s boisterous production with a similarly obnoxious autotune hook. No one does luxury fashion metaphors quite like Lancey either, and his verse is full of them.

KAM-BU - ARE YOU ON?

With this single, Kam-Bu rattles the conventions of rap with a genre-blending beat and a ghastly vocal delivery. Matching the track’s chilly vibes, which come courtesy of DJ Leon Vynehall’s production, Are You On’s video is haunting, and sees Kam loitering in some unnerving settings… to say the least.

JAYDONCLOVER FT DANNY SANCHEZ - CALLME

Off-kilitered drums, woozy synths and Jaydonclover’s shimmery vocals combine in fine fashion on Callme. Danny Sanchez comes in for a reflective verse too, complementing the tone set by Clover early on. Dylantheinfamous provides the instrumental too, who can do very little wrong when offering his production services.

J P ROSE - CEO

Anyone who can produce their own music and still rap flawlessly will always get our backing. J P is mastering both trades simultaneously, accommodating his ethereal beats with polished hooks and verses. CEO follows in this vein, whilst experimenting with autotune to further expand his sonic repertoire.

RAGZ ORIGINALE - NIGHTCAP FT JOHN GLACIER

Going back-to-back, lyrically, over trippy snares and a vigorously groovy bassline, Ragz and John Glacier effortlessly flow their vocal debonair on, arguably, the Mini Kingz affiliate’s most catchy track to date. Read our full review of ‘WOAH’, Originale’s latest EP offering, right here.

NIKHIL BEATS - DEADLOKD

It was difficult to pick a specific track from Nikhil’s 3000 Realms, and it may come as a surprise that we’ve chosen one of the two featureless cuts on there. From Finn Foxell to Bawo and Safiyyah to Yiiga, the project is bursting with talented wordsmiths, but the inherent groove on Deadlokd is too contagious to look past.

FINN FOXELL - LIL LADY

Whilst we all wait for Foxell’s next project, the West Londoner’s dropped some heat over on his soundcloud. Named ‘Lil Lady’, a cut he deems “very close to his heart”, the track revels in the theme of love over a lucid guitar-led melody. It’s unquestionable that Finn’s vault is brimmed with hits that will never see the light of day, so at least he’s been so kind as to bless us with this.

RAVES RAVES RAVES RAVES RAVES RAVES

DOLENZ - BLACK HELICOPTER FT DABBLA

‘[It’s] another window into my psyche I guess’ Dolenz told us after releasing his latest EP Electric Fence - a project that grinds granuals of dubstep, electro and halftime over hiphop beats. Black Helipcopter is a contagious highlight from the cassette, which has been released by the good guys at Potent Funk.

ROSS FROM FRIENDS - BURNER

Coinciding with the announcement of his new label Scarlet Tiger, Felix Weatherall (better known as Ross From Friends) released the floaty single Burner. It’s glitchy, U.K.. rave sonics pulse over a classic four-to-the-floor rhythm forming an equally elegant and decadent new single from the producer.

LSDXOXO - DYING FOR IT 2021

‘I was dying for this and I didn’t even know’ read one comment on LSDXOXO’s latest single ‘Dying For It 2021’; we couldn’t agree more. If you’ve started the year off as sleepy as most, this foray into broken acid beat is just what you need. Vintage, thumping drums, vocal samples and an almost tribal rhythm will get you jeered up for any occasion - whether that be an online seminar or your weekly trek to Aldi.

HOO05 SPECIAL REQUEST - PULL UP (TIM REAPER REMIX)

Released on Sherelle and Naina’s Hooversound label, Tim Reaper’s remix EP of cuts from Special Request’s Zero Fucks album had us crying that we wouldn’t be hearing this on the rig of our favourite clubs anytime soon. Providing a different perspctive to Paul Woolford’s heavyweight production, Tim Reaper’s remix of PULL UP flexes a rumbling baseline and frenetic drums in a beautifully nostalgic manor. Definitely our favourite jungle cut from January.
