Cityboymoe bids farewell to 2022 with the soulful new single "NW10".
Rising through the ranks, 2022 has undoubtedly been a fruitful year for cityboymoe. His poignant storytelling has seen him collaborate with everyone from Joy Orbison to Stay Flee Get Lizzy, and with a slew of singles under his belt, it feels like the artist's individuality is finally seeing the merit it deserves. Earnestly conveying vulnerability through his diaristic verses, the wordsmith is ending the year strongly with his new single “NW10”.
“What we’ve all got in common is, one mum, no pops, no regiment // poverty and problems how we stepped in” is as candid an opening lyric as you’ll hear this year. What is more striking, however, is how nonchalantly Moe delivers his story despite how bittersweet it seemingly is. Stripped-back melodies and the North-West Londoner’s syrupy hooks elevate the sociopolitical struggles “NW10” and its visuals present.
Directed by Arran Asham, the video follows Moe in his native Harlesden. Peeping at the area through a raw lens, the visuals take on an autobiographical role; Moe checks in with locals and links up with friends amidst NW10’s beautifully bleak and authentic settings. Throughout the video, cityboymoe can be seen donning Splitdat, the name of his collective, tracksuits and a range of timeless streetwear pieces. Iconographically speaking, the demasted British flag is a particularly powerful moment and speaks volumes about the country's current state.
